Where did the summer go? As most people probably feel, the summer nights went by too quickly and the routine of back to school seems like it was weeks ago. Although I truly love summer, fall is my favorite season and while it is possible this was all mental, I am convinced the nights feel just a tad cooler this week. September brings football, fall festivals, pumpkin spice lattes, grape stomping, fire pits, camping, apple pies and cider, and the return of my fall booties!
As for my absolute favorite fall recipes, I like a warm bowl of pumpkin soup topped with pepitas and sour cream, but really I love all things pumpkin. My favorite fall comfort food dish is butternut squash ravioli with a brown sugar butter. Naughty? Yes, but so delicious. Maybe add something green to the plate, if makes you feel better about eating every last bite. If you come to my house, I will also find any opportunity to throw a few pomegranate seeds on your meal, whether its oatmeal, a chicken salad, or a pear crisp, I think the texture and vivid color of a delicate pomegranate seed brighten any dish. What are your favorite fall recipes or family favorites?
Then there is also fall decorations and crafts! Fall wreaths, candles and luminaries, seasonal pillows, and warm table runners all make the house cozy and inviting for guests. Usually I embrace the colorful shades of fall in orange and red hues, but this year I am going a little more glam. I was inspired by a few gold pumpkins and will transition into fall with gold and white, then for October add black decorations and serveware. I think white pumpkins are classic for fall and are a little more subtle; I had small white pumpkins at my fall wedding lining a white fireplace with mercury glass candles. If you have time this weekend, get inspired by checking out fall ideas on Pinterest or Martha Stewart. Then evaluate what you have at home, pick up a few new items that really make you happy, try a DIY, and transition into fall.
