Old Town Alexandria is one of my favorite places to brunch and stroll around on a lazy Sunday. Old Town has some wonderful restaurants and little antique shops you could spend all day browsing. For a quick bite and coffee, I would recommend Killer E.S.P. and Le Pain Quotidien. For unique gifts, I like Red Barn Mercantile, Pink Palm, Random Harvest, The Spice and Tea Exchange, and the Sugar Cube. There are also some lovely cheese and wine shops, Cheesetique and Grape + Bean are just two I have visited.
If you prefer to sleep in on weekends, then an evening in Old Town Alexandria will not disappoint. The tree-lined waterfront is beyond scenic and a great place to walk around before dinner or a great backdrop for a late-night kiss! As for my favorite restaurants, I love Hank’s Oyster Bar, Brabo, and Columbia Firehouse for the atmosphere and food. My husband’s top pick is Eamonn’s for authentic fish and chips. For a specialty cocktail make your way over to the popular spot PX, which is conveniently located next door to Eamonn’s. Look for the light above the door to enter.
Note — If you want to really shop then Saturday or weekdays are best in Old Town, as some of the shops are closed on Sunday.
Spent some serious time in the Sugar Cube. The shop has an excellent selection of chocolates and other sweets.
