Relaxing Weekend in Sunny San Diego

I visited Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego in early January for a girls getaway weekend.

From San Francisco, it is a little over an hour flight and if you are a window seat lover like me, you might get a wonderful view of downtown San Diego as you land. That is really one awesome perk about living in California, some great destinations are within a few hours’ drive or a quick flight!

The Rancho Bernardo Inn is beautifully decorated in what I would call mission style, with wood-beams lining the ceilings and gorgeous wrought-iron fixtures. My favorite place to relax here is beside the spa pool. You can rent a cabana for the day, which is what we did, and had lunch and refreshing drinks poolside all afternoon. There is also a salt-water jacuzzi to warm up in.

The first morning I was there, I could NOT believe the weather. The birds were out singing (just for me, of course) and the sun was warm, but not too hot. I felt like I was in a tropical paradise with the lush flowers and fruit trees on the property. There are orange trees everywhere on the property. At night, you can find fire pits around the pool and restaurant patio.

If the spa is not your thing, there is also a golf course on property. But really, this is a place to come for a night or two with your spouse or  your best girlfriends and do your favorite activities. You can choose to workout, golf, or just relax. My recommendation is to relax at the spa, then sit poolside with a good book, and enjoy a delicious dinner on the patio. I also would recommend the brunch at Veranda, where you can leisurely enjoy a breakfast that overlooks the golf course.

The rooms have a nice bath tub and a refrigerator for you to keep snacks and drinks. The rooms are cozy and comfortable, but not fussy.

I slept well there and enjoyed girl time. I even finished reading a book there, which is a real treat. I am so thankful I was invited and can’t wait to return next January for our now annual girls weekend at the Inn!
