Good morning from Germany! I have serious jet lag and my body wakes me up at 5 am ready to start the day. Luckily, breakfast is served at 7 am, so until then I get ready for the day and tidy up my room. Today, my husband and I will drive to Prague for the weekend with a lunch stop in Rothenburg. I am very excited about this weekend since it has been about 10 years since I was last in Prague. I remember thinking then, I cannot wait to return to this city! We have had a great few days in Heidelberg and I can’t wait to share my recommendations in a future post.
Although it is chilly here, I can really appreciate the winter temperatures in Heidelberg. Not that I have been living in California that long, but I can assure you, we are completely spoiled by our version of winter. Here I can wear my east-caost essentials like my heavy winter coat, cute gloves, and white knit hat around town. It feels nice to sit by a warm fire inside and walk around town with a warm cup of tea.
Tonight, we plan to settle into our hotel room, catch some Olympic action, and take a beautiful evening stroll along the Charles Bridge. If I were at home though, this is what I would be up to this weekend:
1. Celebrate the start of the 2014 Winter Olympics Sochi style. Enjoy a Olympic-themed vodka drink tonight for the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony. This is the first time I have been abroad during the Olympics and we will do our best to tune into some of our favorite events. One advantage is that the time change should make viewing a little easier.
2. Mourn the end of football and get right into NCAA basketball. Yes, with the Super Bowl over, it can leave this sad little void in one’s heart. Not to be overly dramatic, but the end of football season can be a tough time for some of us. I know not everyone feels this way, some are excited the fantasy madness and hours of Sunday viewing is over. If you haven’t already watched any college basketball games this year, tune into your college or favorite team. My husband is a SDSU alum and a huge basketball fan, so needless to say he is more than pumped that his men’s basketball team is currently ranked 5th nationally. Study up people, learn your teams, and you will be in good shape for March Madness brackets.
3. Finalize your Valentine’s plans. Whether you have a hot date or not this Valentine’s, finish sending your Valentine’s cards to your loved ones this weekend. Buy any gifts that will not be purchased at the flower shop. If you have a date planned, what are you going to wear? And if you don’t have any plans, make a date with your single best friend and watch a great movie together. For me, I always love to watch Sex and the City or The Devil Wears Prada. Both of these movies, make me happy and are not overly lovely-dovey. Or watch a latest Oscar-nominated release like thrilling Captain Phillips or Dallas Buyers Club.
What are your plans for the weekend?! Keep warm and go team USA!
