Dress information here and below.
It has only been a year that I have been California resident. My husband and I have been busy exploring the Bay Area and I keep hearing of new places I should visit. Our calendar is certainly full! While I am keeping a list of 101 things to do in northern California, I also love the beaches and coastline of southern California. We do not get to central and southern California that often, but when we do, I continue to fall more in love with California!
Over Labor Day weekend, we had dear friends out from the east coast and they stayed in Manhattan Beach. I only knew of Manhattan Beach from watching House Hunters and was eager to meet our friends for an afternoon of fun.
I can’t say enough good things about my experience in Manhattan Beach. Yes, parking and traffic can be a pain, but the town is so quaint and picturesque, it is worth any inconvenience. The homes surrounding the beach are stunning and the downtown area has boutiques and restaurants you want to visit. The beaches are wide and clean, along with the pier and a boardwalk strand that stretches for miles, and beach volleyball, there is plenty to do.
We had lunch at The Strand House, which served brunch all day. For the views and atmosphere, this is an excellent restaurant. I hear this is also a great place for cocktails in the evening. For my meal, I had the fruit plate to start and a delicious heirloom tomato salad. My husband ordered the prime dry aged beef burger served on a pretzel bun and ate EVERY last BITE! I would go back to this restaurant and want to try their wood fired pizza or a dinner entree. This would be a perfect spot to host an event, but if you will not make it to Manhattan Beach anytime soon, just check out their envious photo gallery here.
Another spot for a good meal is Simmzy’s Pub. Here you will find great food, a nice beer selection, and it is family friendly.
As if we were not full enough from lunch, we decided it was important to have a sweet treat to finish. We wanted to go to the Creamery, but the line was out the door. So we walked a few blocks further and stopped in Bonaventura Gelato Lounge for gelato. I enjoyed two varieties of chocolate gelato (because when is one flavor really enough!) and I thought they were both delicious.
Finally, if you are looking to spend the night in a special boutique hotel, Shade is the place to stay. Shade is pricey, but is in a prime location and is top rated in Manhattan Beach.
Manhattan Beach has so much to offer and streets to explore, you really could have a wonderful weekend getaway here. This beach is also conveniently located near LAX airport, which makes getting here a breeze.
Until next time Manhattan Beach!
In Manhattan Beach with my dear friend! I love this Asos Maternity dress by the way. It is colorful, breezy, and ultra comfortable!
