How My Style Has Changed

How My Style Has Changed

Since I became a mom of a beautiful little girl with severe acid reflux, my daily style has naturally evolved. Before becoming pregnant, I had to adapt my east coast faves to more breathable, lightweight clothes for California. Living in D.C., black was a wardrobe staple and now I rarely wear black pants. Then I had to shift my style again once becoming pregnant and now that I am taking care of my daughter.

These days, I am living in boyfriend jeans and tops that I can easily throw into the wash. We are definitely spending less at the dry cleaners because I do not want to ruin a silk blouse or beautiful tunic because I was burping baby M. And really can you see me at the park in silk? Not really practical for my new wardrobe as a mom. That being said, I still want to be considered stylish and cute, it just requires some new staples to my existing closet.

Basically, my weekday outfits are cute knits and graphic tees, which you can dress up with a fitted causal blazer, moto jacket, or structured sweater paired with a skinny or boyfriend jeans. I try to buy items in the same color family so I can match with ease and the add colorful accessories. I love to wear flats when it is nice outside and booties when it is a little cooler. Then add some pretty jewels with pops of color that make you feel good and a scarf for keeping warm. I think as long as the pieces are tailored or fitted, and you have nice shoes on, you look polished and together!

As for the weekend, date night is the time to pull out old favorites like a beautiful silk popover or embellished top. Or if you are feeling really great, a favorite cocktail dress!

As for your hair and makeup, time is a premium. With minimal effort and time, you can still lather your face in a tinted moisturizer with SPF. Mascara and lipstick also always have a big impact so don’t skip those. I have escaped to Dry Bar on a few occasions and dry shampoo can really extend the life of a blowout. When all else fails, throw on a hat and go!

Lastly, days spent at home cuddling with your baby are precious and amazing, and on those days you may not feel the need to dress up for the world. As a busy mom, we do not always have the time or energy. Some days I just wear my workout clothes! Feel free to put on your most comfortable pjs or velour jumpsuit and relax. Enjoy these moments and do not feel guilty! Your baby will never be any younger than they are today.
