I am so excited about this month and it kicks off with a solid weekend ahead. Get excited because this weekend is the Kentucky Derby and pre-party celebrations for Cinco de Mayo! This month we also have Mother’s Day festivities, Memorial Day, and National Macaroon Day. Yes, you heard it here first, nationally celebrated macaroon day! For me, May also looks especially promising as I have a wild bachelorette weekend to attend in Washington, D.C., a few very important birthdays I cannot wait to celebrate, and a dear friend’s wedding in Atlanta (ATL is where I attended college!).
This weekend, we promised ourselves that we would finish unpacking. What a process! Almost there, another eight hours or so of organizing and we should feel settled. In addition to that fun, we will watch the Kentucky Derby in Napa and then attend an alfresco pizza party in Yountville. I hope you have a great weekend ahead, but if you are looking for some inspiration here you go:
1. Make Mint Juleps. It is not too late to plan a fun Saturday of hats, seersuckers, and mint juleps. Pull out your most colorful attire, pick your favorite Derby contender, and have a grand afternoon/evening watching! I have my money on California Chrome and Wicked Strong. Check out the Mint Julep recipe here and don’t forget to chill the cup first!
On our cross country journey to California last August, we spent a night in Lexington Kentucky and toured Churchill Downs the next day in Louisville. Lexington was beyond stunning with the horse farms and green landscape for miles. I would love to return one day to Louisville to actually see the Derby! Anyone have a ticket connection?!
2. Plan a Mexican fiesta. My husband is known for his delicious filet mignon tacos. This weekend and Monday as well, we will probably feast on chips and salsa, guacamole, and light tacos! Living on the east coast most of my life, I can honestly say I am making up for lost years! We just didn’t have taco options on the east coast when I was growing up. Now there are adorbable taco shops and taco trucks everywhere offering great variety and fresh ingredients. Make your own breakfast burritos, snack on tacos, nachos, or grab some to go; either way this is the weekend to enjoy it all guilt-free.
3. Get out your planner! One of my favorite things to do is plan. I love looking forward to events and having everything in order. Of course, things may have to be adjusted as life happens, but at least you have a great foundation for your month! Now that the weather is warmer, plan a BBQ with your friends, make a date to an amusement park, enjoy a picnic in a national park, reserve a camping spot for a few nights, or just walk to your favorite gelato shop for a late evening treat! This May could be your best month yet!
Have a great weekend!
