Super Bowl Sunday

I am very excited about this Super Bowl Sunday for two reasons. One, Katy Perry is performing at half time and I just adore her.  I know she will put on a spectacular half time show, as I saw her in concert last September and was in awe (read about that here). We are also watching the Super Bowl with family and friends, which means we are taking our first overnight road trip! Wish us luck! I am already having anxiety about what to pack for the little one.

Usually I get excited to watch the game itself, which I am sure I will enjoy especially if it is a close one like has been suggested. However, with deflategate scandal and the return of the Seahawks (I am a Niners fan now after all), for me, the highlights will certainly be the commercials and Katy Perry.

Since we will be at a friend’s house, I do not have to worry about planning a gathering, but it is so easy to throw together a great menu. It is always a good idea to have chips, salsa, and guacamole and other dips at your party. My favorite one-dish meal for any football game is a chipotle chili topped with Fritos, cheese, sour cream, onion, and avocado. You can have regional food too like clam chowder if you are a Patriots fan. For the Sea Hawks, maybe a nice smoked salmon bagel bar. What are you planning for your Super Bowl menu?

Here are some easy and fun ideas whether you are watching with a few friends or with a big group:

Set up a photo booth! Easy props like a football, whistle, and jerseys will make it fun.

Play games! In California, we can play outdoor games like cornhole and ladder golf. Elsewhere, you need to be a bit more creative with easy indoor games like Super Bowl squares, charades, commercial bingo, and sports trivia. Have the games ready to go long before kickoff for your early arriving guests.

Style your bar cart! Make it festive with a garland, football shaped or team napkins, and a signature cocktail as well as beer and wine. Or you can set up a taco bar or chili station on your bar cart so guests can help themselves. Yum!

Enjoy cupcakes. My favorite cupcakes to order are Baked by Melissa (starts at $20) and Georgetown Cupcake ($32 plus shipping). Both companies have Super Bowl themed cupcakes, but most importantly they are tasty! But of course, you can also make your own using edible dye!

Wishing you a fabulous Super Bowl Sunday!
